Tree-lined streets and well-manicured lawns welcome residents and visitors to the sprawling homes that dot the 2.26 square miles of prime landscape. The town, between the Dallas North Tollway and U.S. 75 (North Central Expressway) has about 8,900 residents. Addresses in the area can be designated as either Dallas, Texas, or Highland Park, Texas. This area contains several recreational centers such as Lakeside Park, Fairfax Park and Jester Park. Highland Park and University Park make up the Park Cities.

Highland Park is also home to Turtle Creek - a natural spring-fed clear-running creek with over 100 species of wildlife. The popular Katy Trail jogging/bike path runs parallel to Turtle Creek, but the creek trail offers a more peaceful natural experience with the babbling creek, water foul and songbirds in the 87 acre urban forest. The city boasts of eight tennis courts and a town swimming pool. The Town of Highland Park is home to the Dallas Country Club, the oldest such club in the state of Texas. It also has some luxury condominiums.

Highland Park is famous for one of the oldest Christmas Traditions in Dallas County - the annual lighting of The Big Pecan Tree.
