Did you know that Frisco, Texas, is working its way into football relevancy and is becoming the Football capital of Texas?
Big 12 Media Days won’t be in Dallas this July. They will be in Frisco, about 30 miles north of Dallas.
The Dallas Cowboys no longer headquarter at Valley Ranch in Irving. They now call Frisco home.
The Cowboys call their new home “The Star,” a 91-acre campus that includes the Cowboy officers, practice facility and the Ford Center, a 12,000-seat indoor football stadium. The Star also includes an entertainment district with restaurants and shops, the Omni hotel and a medical center. The Star also can host conferences, conventions, corporate meetings and retreats. Hence, Big 12 Media Days going to Frisco.
The Miami Beach Bowl will be played in Frisco’s Toyota Stadium, an 18,000-seat venue that is home to Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas and Frisco Independent School District football games.
The NCAA Division I-AA championship game is played at Toyota Stadium.
Toyota Stadium opened in 2005 at a cost of $80 million and already has undergone a $39 million renovation. The stadium now is home to the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Frisco is just north of Plano on the northeast side of the Metroplex.
Frisco was the fastest-growing city in America in the first decade of the 2000s. Its current population is estimated at 161,000.
Frisco now is home to the Texas League’s Frisco RoughRiders, who play at the Dr Pepper Ballpark; Dr Pepper Arena, home of the Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks’ D-League basketball team; and the National Hockey League Dallas Stars practice facility. The Southland Conference headquarters are in Frisco.
Now there’s a bowl game in Frisco, which will match an American Conference team against an opponent.
Even the Miami Beach Bowl has moved to Frisco. Which would be all kinds of great, since San Francisco is also on the list of coolest places on Earth. Except the bowl has moved to Frisco, Texas.
