Congratulations. Before you search listings, decide three things: your start date, your commute limit and whether you want a new build, a resale or acreage. Everything else follows from those.

What is the home buyer checklist?

Set your commute from each address to your shift location.
Choose the town. Sherman, Gunter, Van Alstyne, Pottsboro and Denison all show up in area searches.
Verify the ISD for the exact address, in writing from the district.
Verify the county and the taxing units on the tax certificate.
Check water and wastewater, public or private.
If it is new construction, call me before you register with a builder.
Ask your employer what relocation terms apply, and ask your lender about timing.
